The planning office is active in the fields of building construction, urban planning, interior design and project development. The company has 18 employees and supports its clients – both private and public clients – in service phases 1-8, and in some cases also 9. NOVA AVA has been used for construction cost management since the beginning of 2023 – primarily in building construction, but also in other areas, such as the tender for the interior design of a student hall of residence.

How do you currently use NOVA AVA for your projects?

Of course, every project starts with cost planning. If the customer is satisfied with the first estimate, we refine it further and create the BOQ. Quantity takeover is currently still done manually; we create evaluations in Revit, for example component lists, and transfer the values to Excel, where they are processed and structured. They are then entered into NOVA AVA. However, this should be more elegant in the future.

The company only uses DIN 276 for public clients. For private clients, the company has its own internal trade catalog. This catalog of trades is much easier for private clients to understand than DIN 276.
It is essential that private clients understand the cost overviews, as private clients are always concerned with costs (and deadlines).

You also tender with NOVA: How is the tendering platform accepted by the subcontractors?

We use online tendering very intensively for projects for private clients. There has been a clear shift in the use of the system by the trades: the vast majority now enter their prices directly online on the platform. And we receive positive feedback from 80 to 90 percent of our subcontractors.
Only a few still prefer the old workflow and request PDF or GAEB files, calculate in their own software and then return a GAEB file.

How did you hear about NOVA AVA? Were you actively looking for new construction cost management software?

Yes, our previous software was too cumbersome and complicated. And in fact, only one colleague really knew how to use it. If you hadn’t worked with it for a while, you had to familiarize yourself with it again or ask colleagues. That’s why I was looking for a solution that was easier and more intuitive to use, but also offered more functions.

At first I tested one of the conventional players. I was told about NOVA AVA by a friend of mine. Then I watched all the tutorials over a weekend and quickly realized – this is exactly what we are looking for! Late in the evening, I bought my first license.

You tested the application yourself for some time and then rolled it out in the office. How did the changeover go for your colleagues?

Unusually simple! It looked very smart, compressed and was easy to explain. At first I was asked whether it was something as simple as Paint. And it’s true: only when you get into a topic more intensively do you go deeper and into the details with NOVA AVA. You do that when you need to. But the software doesn’t force me to do that. I think that’s why everyone quickly enjoyed it and had the confidence to work with it.

What is the most valuable change for your office – the key benefit – from using NOVA?

NOVA AVA has led to colleagues dealing with the subject of construction costs who did not do so before.

In the past, only a few people in the office were familiar with the software, but now pretty much everyone works with it. This increases productivity! Our site managers also use NOVA and can create a cost estimate, for example, because it’s very intuitive.

And of course, the fact that everything works online in the cloud is brilliant. We can work flexibly with it anywhere; that definitely makes it easier.
